Effective deterrents against attacks on drivers
“Help...
Taxi driver
under attack
Please call the police”
Taxi drivers are increasingly coming under attack from passengers.
Whether it’s aggression from drugs or too much alcohol, a passenger who doesn’t intend
to pay the fare, or someone intent on robbing the day’s takings the outcome is all-
Female taxi drivers are even more at risk from those who consider them an easy target.
But the truth is these people are often cowards who will back off as soon as they are challenged.
At the push of a button the Taxi Alarm calls for help and its real human voice cannot be ignored by anyone within earshot.
An optional electronic sounder inside the vehicle serves to confuse and disorientate the assailant who will usually cease the attack and leave as quickly as possible.
When it’s your safety at stake you need to respond immediately. Your assailant won’t be expecting an alarm to sound and when it does he will be the one who’s afraid of the consequences.
Better still if there’s a warning message to deter a potential attacker before the journey has even begun the problem can often be avoided completely.
Taxi Alarm
Many taxi licensing authorities now require taxis and private hire vehicles to be fitted with CCTV systems.
To satisfy civil liberties requirements taxi drivers are also expected to notify every passenger on every journey that they are being
recorded.
Of course you want passengers to be aware of the CCTV, after all one of the main reasons for having it installed is to prevent incidents from happening.
There’s very little consolation in knowing that your attacker has been recorded on video when you are suffering from injury, especially since most incidents can easily be avoided
So for it to be an effective deterrent, how do you get the message across?
Warning posters are ok but how effective are they? And do you really want to tell every passenger, on every trip.
The answer is simple.
A low-
At the push of a button a polite male or female voice informs passengers
“For safety and security purposes all passengers in this vehicle
are recorded on cctv.”
or
“Passengers please note that for safety and security purposes
video recording is in operation in this vehicle.”
It couldn’t be more simple than that. The message is automatic, it doesn’t come from you so there’s no fear of confrontation, but most important of all it is very effective.
And if it prevents just one incident then it is even more valuable than the cctv system itself.
The warning sounder is unobtrusive, easy to install and maintenance-
